Even when I don t completely agree with what Carl Jung has written, I still enjoy his viewpoints and insights In The Psychology of Nazism , Jung attacks or like very critically analyzes the German psyche and its relation to Nazism Despite being at less than 100 pages, this book better describes the how why of the rise and fall of German than all 1,245 pages of William Shirer s The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich This book is especially interesting to those individuals of European descent that feel they have the archetype of Wotan lurking in their soul.

This is the best explanation of what caused WW2 I ve ever heard It s truly fascinating to read, but also scary, as it shows the underlying mentality of people, and it is not very different from what is happening today around the world The herd mentality, the abandonment of deep thinking, the black and white thinking, the screams for extremes Seeing the state as a master not a servant The despise of individualism The bigotry The loss of Self The fear of oneself The search for meaning The search for identity The inferiority mentality The search for something bigger than oneself, and because we have killed God, the next best thing would be the state or the collective we want it to relieve us of our burdens, to be a parental figure We are children playing a dangerous game without seeing the shadows lurking everywhere, controlling us our shadow that we try to deny No wonder the Greeks inscribed know thyself in the pronaos of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi.
